The cards taught more than just Bible stories, however. Fairly regularly, they included temperance lessons. This one, drawing its text from Proverbs, teaches children the dangers of drink. It begins with a parenthetical request, will some one at home please teach the child the lesson. And it concludes with a Lesson Truth: Never allow anyone to tempt you to taste strong drink. (Unlike the other cards in this exhibit, this card is a Westminster Lesson Card, printed by the Presbyterian Board of Publication in Philadelphia.)
